Shark Fights 12 Draws Record Breaking Attendance on June 26th Despite the Strikeforce and M-1 Global Televised MMA Event
Amarillo, TX. – July 1, 2010 –Texas based mixed martial arts fight promotion company, Shark Fight Promotions, announced today that Shark Fights 12 – “Unfinished Business” set a new attendance record for outdoor MMA events in Texas. The promotion company’s annual event at Gamboa’s Outdoor Event Center drew a record breaking 10,918 MMA fans despite going head to head with the televised Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Werdum event.
In 2009, Shark Fight Promotions set a new precedent for MMA events in Texas at the same venue, when Shark Fights 5.5 drew the largest crowd on record for an outdoor MMA event in Texas (10,603 fans). The popular fight promotion company continues to take the position as an industry leader, raising the bar for regional promoters once again with Shark Fights 12 – “Unfinished Business”. The promoter, who takes pride in putting the fans and the fighters first, couldn’t be happier.
“We are very happy with the outcome. We had an exciting night of fights, Kimbo Slice was in attendance, Don Frye and ESPN 1440 radio host Warren McCarty were calling the fight action, and Gamboa’s Outdoor Event Center was packed with enthusiastic MMA fans. Setting a new attendance record was just icing on the cake,” states Brent Medley, president of Shark Fight Promotions.
Medley went on to say, “MMA fans travel to Shark Fight events from all over Texas to support their favorite fighters; therefore we go to great lengths to stack each card with compelling fights that the fans want to see. I feel that we accomplished that with this card. The proof is in the numbers. At Shark Fights 12 – “Unfinished Business”, we had 10,918 fans in attendance, nearly the same number of fans that attended the Strikeforce and M-1 Global event.”
When comparing the population of each city, the Shark Fight attendance numbers are particularly impressive. Amarillo’s population is approximately 187,000 compared to San Jose’s population of over 900,000. The attendance comparison becomes even more dramatic when considering the 18 –45 year old demographic in each city.
