The term larger than life is thrown around far too often in modern day sports. Whenever two rivalled teams meet in a regular season matchup the term is used, despite the lack of significance or relativity.
When Brock Lesnar defends his UFC Heavyweight Championship against interim champ Shane Carwin on July 3 at UFC 116, the term larger than life will unquestionable be applicable. These two men represent the new breed of heavyweight. This breed combines overwhelming strength
with the speed of a welterweight to make them the meanest fighting machine on the planet.
Lesnar and Carwin both fit the criteria.
Since his loss to Frank Mir in February of 2008, Lesnar has been unstoppable in the heavyweight division. Victories over Heath Herring, Couture, and Mir have raised his stock considerably,
making him the consensus second ranked heavyweight in the world.
Carwin has been on a similar stretch of dominance over the past two years defeating Christian Wellisch, Neil Wain, Gabriel Gonzaga and most recently Mir.
Size wise the similarities are obvious. Both men cut considerable amounts of weight to make the 265lb. Heavyweight limit, a phenomenon that is fairly new to the division. Lesnar is 6 foot 3 inches with an 81 inch reach. Comparatively, Carwin is 6 foot 2 inches with an 80 inch reach. The disadvantage Carwin faces in the height and reach are so insignificant that it will have no affect on the fight. To read more get your subscription to Scrapp! Today click here
