Our good friends over at Heavy.com caught up with Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker after yesterday’s press conference for the upcoming Strikeforce: Houston show. Coker explained why Strikeforce had to release its former middleweight champion Jake Shields. He also confirmed that whilst they weren’t able to put together a middleweight title tournament there will be a tournament in October to determine the number one contender.
Coker talked about the ongoing negotiations with former WWE pro-wrestler Dave Batista and how the promotion would be interested in pitting him against his former colleague Bobby Lashley, possibly on pay per view. Lastly, Coker also talked about why he predicted that Fedor Emelianenko would lose to Fabricio Werdum and his hopes to have both fighters compete in a heavyweight tournament also involving Antonio Silva and the current champion Alastair Overeem.
