The UFC has confirmed that the eagerly anticipated rematch between Frank Mir and Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira will headline its first-ever show in Indiana. The two heavyweights will square off on September 25th at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, with Nogueira looking to prove that his shock loss to Mir at UFC 92 was the result of him fighting whilst struggling with several injuries including a severe staph infection.
Talking about the event, Dana White said that “ever since Frank Mir beat Nogueira for the heavyweight title in 2008, ‘Minotauro’ has asked me for this rematch because he wants to prove that the first fight was a fluke,…On Sept. 25, he gets his wish, and I don’t think there’s any fighter more motivated than he is to even the score…As for Frank Mir, he wants to get back in the title picture, and if I know him, he was the first man to knock Nogueira out at UFC 92, and now he’ll want to be the first man to make him tap out.”
While attending AFC3 to corner Robert Drysdale, Frank Mir spoke to Trevor Dueck about the upcoming rematch:
Nogueira’s twin brother Antonio Rogerio will also be fighting on UFC 119, facing former All-American wrestler Ryan Bader in the event’s co-main. Bader won’t be the only The Ultimate Fighter alumnus fighting with TUF4 finalists Chris Lytle and Matt Serra once again meeting in the Octagon.
