Undefeated MMA prospect Jake Doerr (6-0) has his perfect record awarded with the toughest test in his career; the La Crosse, Wisconsin native will face BJJ ace, Vinny Magalhaes (6-5) on the televised main card of M-1 Challenge: Damkovsky vs. Figueroa; fans can capture the light heavyweight bout’s action LIVE from the Constant Center in Norfolk, Virginia, on SHOWTIME on Friday, March 25 at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).
A fan-favourite and veteran of the Ultimate Combat Sports promotion, Doerr has maintained perfection as a professional fighter and has yet to require the judges’ services to decide an outcome, in fact, Doerr has finished every one of his opponents inside the first round. His well-rounded and aggressive fighting style made him an easy choice as an addition to M-1 Global’s March 25th card in Norfolk, Virginia.
At 30 years of age, Doerr has been fighting professionally since 2004, although be it sporadically; Doerr took a hiatus in 2008, made one appearance on the canvass in 2009 and was again inactive though 2010. Nevertheless, the Team Howell fighter and training partner to Nick ‘The Goat’ Thompson remains undefeated.
Doerr’s last outing 13 months ago was against Rico Washington Sr. where he utilized his powerful upper body and balance to sweep his opponent to the mat; from there out, Doerr worked diligently to secure full mount, posture up and drop heavy bombs through Washington’s defense. With Washington looking to escape and making the fatal error of giving his up his back, Doerr seized the opportunity to flatten out his foe and lock-in the rear naked choke for the first-round submission victory.
In facing the highly decorated submission specialist Vinny Magalhaes, it’s unlikely Doerr will have any advantage should the bout hit the canvass; this prospect’s best chances for victory come standing up. With the edge in striking abilities, Doerr possess one-punch knock-out power and is effective working in his opponent’s guard where he can throw down a relentless ground and pound. If he can stun Magalhaes from his feet and engage a lightning quick barrage, Doerr could shock the critics who have classed him as the significant underdog and walk away with his undefeated record intact.
M-1 Challenge: Damkovsky vs. Figueroa airs LIVE on SHOWTIME on Friday, March 25 at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).
