CHICAGO, Ill. (March 23, 2011) — It’s official, Bellator Fighting Championships will make its first visit to New Jersey with Bellator 44 on May 14, 2011 at Caesars Casino Hotel in the nationally renowned resort town of Atlantic City. The event will air LIVE on MTV2.
Bellator 44 will be headlined by a Super Fight featuring reigning Bellator World Middleweight Champion and former Judo Olympian Hector Lombard against dangerous Hawaiian UFC veteran Falaniko Vitale as well as a Season 4 Tournament finals pairing in a yet to-be-announced weight class.
“This is a great partnership for us; Atlantic City is a classic fight town and New Jersey is a hotbed for mixed martial arts, so it was a natural fit,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “And, Hector vs. Falaniko should be a great fight.”
Lombard – who holds the Bellator record for fastest KO with a six-second stoppage of Jay Silva, is currently riding a 21 fight unbeaten streak and boasts a professional record of 27-2-1 which includes 14 TKO or KOs. Winning eight of his last 10 fights, Vitale is currently on a three-fight win streak and brings an impressive 29-9 professional record to the fight, including 9 TKO or KOs and 16 submission victories.
