Multiple domestic welterweight champion John “The One” Maguire (16-3 MMA) has become the latest acquisition by the UFC.
Cage Rage UK and OMMAC welterweight champion John Maguire has signed a four fight contract with the world’s largest organization.
Maguire was in competition this past weekend where he successfully defended his Cage Rage UK title against BJJ black belt Peter Irving (14-8-1 MMA) with an impressive victory via unanimous decision.
This bout marked Maguire’s fifth straight victory, three coming within the distance, and the Tsunami Gym product showed another great improvement in his game as he showcased tight boxing to compliment his dangerous grappling.
Maguire will be replacing Kaobon product Marc Scanlon, who withdrew for undisclosed reasons, in a welterweight bout with James Head at UFC 138 on November 5th.
Biritsh fighter Maguire is renowned in the UK scene for his grappling skill and many believe his high level wrestling will translate well into the UFC.
The self proclaimed donut eating king responded in typical comedic fashion when asked for a comment on the signing simply stating “Its about time”
