On Saturday, July 7, the UFC hosted UFC 148 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The event featured a second meeting between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and current No. 1 contender Chael Sonnen. Silva famously submitted Sonnen in final minutes of their UFC 117 bout, in which Sonnen dominated the first four rounds. The rematch was easily one of the most anticipated fights in recent memory.
In addition to the main event, the card also featured a rubber match between former light heavyweight champions Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz. The pair split their previous meetings, with each fighting taking home a decision win. Ortiz announced prior to the event that this would be his final bout and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame earlier in the week.
Saturday’s main card aired live on pay-per-view, while the preliminary card was split between FX and a Facebook stream.
The night’s winners, as well as UFC President Dana White will discuss the action approximately 30 minutes after the headlining fight between Silva and Sonnen comes to an end. A full stream of the press conference will appear below.
