Ray Sefo, Nick Newell, Josh Burkman, Bas Rutten and Kat Kelley among World Series of Fighting’s nominated talent
LAS VEGAS (Jan. 6, 2014) – World Series of Fighting has been honored with six nominations in the latest edition of the Fighters Only World MMA Awards.
World Series of Fighting was one of five organizations nominated for “Best Promotion,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo was named in the “Leading Man” category, lightweight contender Nick Newell was nominated for “Breakthrough Fighter of the Year,” Josh Burkman’s choke-out of Jon Fitch was nominated for “Submission of the Year,” World Series of Fighting broadcaster Bas Rutten was named in the “Personality of the Year” category and Kat Kelley was named in the “Ringcard Girl of the Year” grouping.
The sixth-annual Fighters Only World MMA Awards honor achievements from Oct. 1, 2012 to Dec. 31, 2013. Winners are determined by fan voting and will be announced on Feb. 7 during a ceremony at The Venetian and Palazzo Resort, Hotel & Casinos in Las Vegas.

World Series of Fighting hosted its first event in November 2012. The promotion has since hosted 10 total events, including eight that aired on NBCSN and another two that took place in Nicaragua under the World Series of Fighting Central American banner. Along the way, the promotion crowned two champions and also announced the official launch of World Series of Fighting Canada, World Series of Fighting Japan and World Series of Fighting Brazil.
The promotion’s next event is scheduled for Jan. 18 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. “World Series of Fighting 8: Gaethje vs. Patishnock” sees Justin Gaethje meet Rich Patishnock for the promotion’s inaugural lightweight belt, while Jessica Aguilar faces Alida Gray for World Series of Fighting’s inaugural women’s strawweight title.
