- Andrea “KGB” Lee | XFC WMMA Fighter
February 5th was National Signing Day for high school football prospects across the country. While college pigskin fans celebrated their new recruits and welcomed their future superstars to campus, the XFC decided they too would get in on the signing day action and ink a few deals of their own. Around 12pm eastern time, the first fax was in and the deal was done; Xtreme Fighting Championships had signed Louisiana Flyweight Andrea “KGB” Lee to a multi-year contract.
Lee is arguably the most popular amateur female competing in The Pelican State. It may have been her scrappy style, huge following, and country girl charm that first caught the eye of XFC President John Prisco, but it was her legit striking and huge upside that sealed the deal. The soon to be 25-year-old from Bossier City, Louisiana grew up a self-proclaimed “Tomboy”; backyard football beat out Barbie for Lee’s attention. In high school she competed in Volleyball and power lifting. Lee’s coaches attribute her freakish strength in the cage to her early days slinging the weights around. Although she has no background in martial arts, Andrea was no stranger to MMA. As a waitress at Buffalo Wild Wings, Lee was captivated by the UFC and the crowd of passionate fans that poured into the restaurant one Saturday each month to cheer on their favorite fighters. Knowing her own toughness and competitive spirit, Lee decided to seek out a gym that would be interested in taking in a female off the street with no prior combat training. After a few failed attempts at finding a gym, Andrea Lee found a home at Karate Mafia in Bossier City, and the results have been nothing short of fabulous.
After a few years of amateur Muay Thai and boxing, and only a few months post pregnancy, Lee and her coaches decided it was time to put on the small gloves and step into the MMA world. Although her first fight as a mixed martial artist didn’t quite go her way, Lee used her split decision loss to a Texas Female Amateur Fighter of the Year as motivation. “KGB” racked up an impressive 7-0 ammy Muay Thai record to go along with her 5-3 MMA campaign. Her three losses were against opponents with a combined 15-1 record. Her attitude of welcoming stiff competition will certainly serve her well heading into her pro debut. Andrea Lee looks to enter the XFC cage this sometime this summer, but before she gives up her amateur status, and with the blessing of Mr. Prisco, she will be competing in June as a member of the National Kickboxing Team.
Andrea “KGB” Lee had this to say about signing her first pro contract: “I am super excited about being a part of the XFC. I’m still just blown away by the whole process. It’s a surreal feeling and I don’t even think it’s begun to really sink in. I just can’t believe that I still have amateur business ahead of me, but I already have a home when I turn pro. But mark my words, I won’t relax one bit. This doesn’t mean I can slack. In fact, I’m going to push even harder so the XFC knows they made the right decision bringing me in. I’ve been a fan of the XFC for a while now and have really started looking at the talented girls that are already there. The company is helping develop some great young fighters and that’s really exciting for me. What that means for me is, with Champions and contenders with smaller records, If I make an impressive debut and follow-up fight…I could be right in the mix.”
