Unlike what everyone thought,
the fight did not turn out to be
a classic match of striking ver-
sus grappling. In front of the
20,000-strong audience at the
Mall of Asia Arena in Manila,
Gracie shocked the world when
he kept the fight standing. His at-
tempts to take McSweeney down
were futile but it turned out to be
of no concern as the fight went
to on the second round and to
the third. Holding his own very
well, Gracie emerged triumphant
when the referee stopped the
fight at 3:15 of the third round,
when McSweeney was at the
receiving end of a barrage of
strikes.
Admittedly, this was a result no-
body saw coming and it truly
showed how much Gracie has
evolved as a mixed martial artist.
No one will be able to escape his
clutches in a battle on the ground,
but Gracie has now earned re-
newed respect for the knockout
performance he put up.
A successful comeback it was for
Gracie, who is now setting his
eyes further, on the ONE FC Light
Heavyweight World Champion-
ship belt that has not been con-
tested for.
Welcome back Roger.
