IS MICHELLE WATERSON A
THREAT AT 115 POUNDS?
Article By: Jessica Doerner
Michelle “The Karate Hottie”
Waterson just signed to the
UFC 115 pound division.
Will she be a threat to the divi-
sion? I believe she will not only
be a threat, but a huge draw
to the UFC’s ratings. The Ka-
rate Hottie has already made a
name for herself in Invicta and
has also starred in a few reality
shows. She was also featured
in a Megadeth music video, so
she is no stranger to a little star-
dom. She trains out of Team
Jackson, which has a number
of UFC fighters already training
there. She has talked in the past
about putting on more muscle,
making her heavier when it
comes time to cut weight. She
was featured in several articles
when the UFC first announced
the addition of the 115-pound
weight class as someone they
should sign.
I don’t necessarily believe she
will be outsized or out-muscled
at 115 pounds. She is coming
off a loss, so it’s likely she will
have a fire lit from that to come
back with a bang, looking for a
platinum play. I believe she has
made a smart career move in
signing with the UFC.
Michelle is 5’3’’, so she is not
much shorter compared to
most of the 115-pound division.
She submitted Jessica Penne in
2013 by armbar. Penne is 5’5”
and a veteran of the sport, so
Waterson has proved she can
hang with the taller, heavi-
er fighters. Penne, who also
fought at 105 and moved up to
115 pounds, is arguably one of
the top 5 strawweights in the
world, or at least in the UFC.
Could Waterson develop into a
Ronda Rousey like draw for the
UFC’s strawweight division?
Only time will tell.
