On Wednesday, during an appearance
on UFC Tonight, the former two-divi-
sion champion and UFC Hall of Famer
was asked about his relationship with
the nutrition guru and his infamous
weight cut to featherweight.
“I’m sick and tired of hearing about
Mike Dolce,” fumed Penn.
Penn’s response should come as no
surprise to no one as both men have
repeatedly taken at the other’s work
ethic for the last year.
The entire beef stems from Penn’s (16-
10-2) third round TKO to Frankie Ed-
gar at The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale
in 2014. This marked Penn’s first foray
into the UFC’s featherweight division,
a feat Dolce helped him achieve, after
spending most of his career competing
as a member of the lightweight and
welterweight division. Penn would an-
nounce his retirement from the sport
of mixed martial arts immediately after
the loss
However it was not soon after, Penn
revealed he regretted hiring Dolce to
help him make the cut to 145-pounds.
Dolce would later reveal his account,
claiming Penn didn’t take this training
camp seriously ahead up to this con-
test with Edgar. Penn would go o to
refute Dolce’s claims, accusing the nu-
tritionist of paying little to no atten-
tion to him even though he was pay-
ing him $20,000.
But now Penn it seems ready to squash
the beef in the former of a grudge
match with one of Dolce’s top fight-
ers.
“I’ll take out your boy Nik Lentz in one
round and then find you in the back
and smash you,” revealed Penn.
If Lentz (25–7–2), a former NCAA Di-
vision I wrestler out of the University
of Minnesota does accepts the chal-
lenge, he will have to make the drop
back down to 145-pounds as he’s cur-
rently matched up with Danny Castillo
in a lightweight contest at UFC on FOX
17 in December.
“The Carney” previously fought at
featherweight from 2012-2015, earn-
ing a record of 4-2 in the process. His
last appearance was a third round
submission loss to Charles Oliveira. It
was not soon after, Lentz announced
he was moving back to 155-pounds.
The timing of couldn’t have come
at a more interesting time, as fellow
Hawaiian Max Holloway recently re-
vealedPenn would come out of retire-
ment if the UFC held its first event in
Hawaii.
Neither Lentz or Dolce has responded
to Penn’s challenge.
