Dear Ronda,
You have changed the game. Just a few short years ago, UFC President, Dana
White, was adamant about women’s MMA being a part of the UFC. Today, not
only does the UFC now have two women’s divisions, but you are arguably the biggest
star this sport has ever seen.
Between your dominance in the Octagon, your best-selling book and your budding
film career, you are opening doors to fans and demographics no one ever even dreamed
of. You are exactly what the UFC and the sport of MMA as a whole needed.
In addition to that, you have become an ideal role model for little girls all over the world.
You are showing them importance of empowerment and what it is to be a strong woman
in a male dominated field. As a father of a young girl, you are the type of person I want
my daughter daring to be like.
But as much as I enjoy your brash personality and your fearlessness to speak your
mind, this little feud with FloydMayweather Jr. has to stop. It was amusing early on, but
now it has become a sideshow.
This war of words and comments hasn’t accomplished anything. It only creates asinine
questions from uninformed media about what would happen if you and Mayweather
fought. Is that really what you want people talking about?
I get it, you initially went after Mayweather because of his history of domestic violence
and that is great. But where are you in regards to the current fighters on theUFC ros-
ter with similar histories of domestic violence. Why have you been quiet on that front?
You are one of the few fighters in the sport today whose voice carries weight not just
with the fans and media, but the UFC as an organization. Rather than taking part in a
ridiculous beef with someone like Mayweather, why don’t you take your fellow UFC
fighters to task for their actions?
Ronda, you have the opportunity to become something bigger than the sport itself. So
instead of wasting your breath going back and forth with Mayweather, focus on being
great and bringing awareness to the issues that currently exist within your own sport.
Respectfully,
Robert Gardner
