to the “wait and see what
happens queue.”
Per MMAMania (h/t TMZ
Sports):
“I’ve seen all his fights
and I don’t do the things
he does because I don’t
do those things in train-
ing. So we’ll see how that
works out if that’s how it
has to be. If they make me
an offer that I can’t refuse
(he’ll fight Woodley at UFC
202), but I doubt that’s go-
ing to happen. Look at me
right now, I don’t need
nothing, I don’t owe no-
body nothing. I don’t owe
nobody shit. I haven’t been
fanatical about fighting
since I was 15, 14, eight
years old. Once I turned
pro, I said this isn’t fun
and games anymore. This
is me. I work on Karma. I
am not going to go after
somebody If I don’t have
a reason behind it. So, as
soon is there a reason for
me to do something then
I will do it. Nobody has
done what I’ve done in
this shit. It just hasn’t hap-
pened yet.”
Nonetheless, the “Skrap
Pack” affiliate was quick to
point out that he doesn’t
give a rat’s arse about
titles, and only wants to
duke it out with the crème
de la crème.
“I want to fight the best
guy. I always want to fight
the best guy. The thing is
I’m on top … I’m the one
on top … they’re dropping
MY name. I don’t need no
fake ass piece of plastic.
Fuck that! We can catch-
weight, too. Everybody
wants to do a fight with
me — champions at 170
and champions at 185. We
can meet halfway, I don’t
owe nobody nothing. I
made PPV without a title.
I don’t need that fake ass
plastic to be somebody.”
If the UFC brass go all
“Vito Corleone” on Diaz,
then a likely date for the
Woodley clash could be as
soon as August 20, 2016,
at UFC 202.
The former Strikeforce
middleweight champ was
last seen in the eight-
walled cage back in Janu-
ary, 2015, where he lost a
unanimous decision to An-
derson Silva. However, the
result was eventually over-
turned to a No-Contest as
both popped hot for Ne-
vada State Athletic Com-
mission (NSAC) banned
substances.
Furthermore, Diaz (26-
9, 2 NC MMA, 7-6 1 NC
UFC), who just turned 33,
hasn’t won a contest since
defeating B.J. Penn almost
five years ago at UFC 137.
Following the Penn win,
the Stockton native vied
for the interim (Carlos
Condit) and welterweight
(St. Pierre) titles — tasting
defeat on both occasions
by way of unanimous de-
cision.
Still, with his needle mov-
ing prowess, what are the
chances of Diaz vs. Wood-
ley stealing the co-main
event spot from Anthony
Johnson and Glover Teix-
eira at UFC 202?
