November is here and it seems
that UFC 205 is already break-
ing records, at least according
to Dana White. UFC president
made an appearance during
the broadcast of the World
Series Major League Baseball
on Fox, and he says UFC 205
set a new gate record at Madi-
son Square Garden. “With all
the legendary fights that were
made in the MSG, with all
these events and we broke the
record for door” White said.
“It’s the biggest and best un-
dercard that we put together
in the history of the company.”
White did not give a specific
figure, but the current record
gate for a combat sport in
the Garden was the meeting
between Lennox Lewis and
Evander Holyfield in 1999.
The bout had an audience of
21,284 people and grossed
13.5 million dollars for the
gate if UFC 205 exceeds that
mark then it is also a new re-
cord for the promotion. The
current mark is 12.075 million
dollars and an audience of
55,724 people for UFC 129,
which took place on April 30,
2011 in Toronto, Canada and
was led by Georges St-Pierre
vs. Jake Shields.
“Obviously, we struggled
so much to get to Madison
Square Garden we wanted
the first event in New York ex-
ceeded all expectations,” con-
tinued White. “Three incred-
ible title fights and the rest of
the card is full of great fights,
including the star and co-star
of the preliminary”.
UFC president took it for granted during a broadcast of the World Series Major League Baseball
