The 2016 summer Olympics officially
came to a close on Sunday, August 21,
and once again the American team was
dominant. The United States earned
121 total medals at the games; 51 more
than China who finished second with 70
medals.
Winning an Olympic medal is a crowning
achievement and something that few
athletes ever have a chance at obtain-
ing. But once the Olympics end and the
victory tours are over many Olympians
must make a choice about their futures.
Many of the sports featured in the Olym-
pics don’t have a professional path and
those that do are not very lucrative.
For Olympic athletes competing in a
combat sport though mixed martial arts
offers an excellent opportunity to earn a
living and extend an athletic career.
