even fans that didn’t buy tickets
because they were convinced
that we would be blocked from
doing the event and that the
event would inevitably be can-
celled. That wasn’t the case. The
event went on as planned and
the fans that did attend were not
disappointed.
SFM:
You recently made his-
tory by holding the very first
MMA event to ever be held at
Madison Square Garden. Tell
us about that.
KL:
Yes, we made history by be-
ing the first to produce an MMA
event at Madison Square Garden.
The event was held at the The-
ater at Madison Square Garden
on November 21st. We also set a
record that night for having the
largest crowd and gate in non-
boxing combat sports history for
the State of New York. Many of us
(fighters and Victory staff mem-
bers) grew up seeing our heroes
play basketball, box, and play
hockey at MSG. It is the world’s
most famous arena. For us (as lo-
cals) words cannot express how
much it means to host a show at
MSG and have it be successful.
MSG Sports partnered with us on
the deal. They knew it would be
a controversial event, so they felt
that mixing the card with muay
thai fights and having the fights
in a ring (in lieu of a cage) would
be best. For the live spectators, a
ring always makes for better sight
lines as well.
