UsingMSG’s official ring also gave
the event an added ‘cool factor’.
Many boxing legends, including
Sugar Shane Mosley, Roy Jones
Jr, Cotto, Calzaghe, and Wladimir
Klitschko, have gone toe-to-toe
in that very ring in recent years.
SFM:
Why do you feel Victo-
ry events draw such a diverse
group of fans, including high-
level business executives?
KL:
There are several reasons for
this. Primarily it is our focus on
the aspects of the event that go
on outside of the ring. We have
several large charities and net-
working events that align with
Victory because they know we
will produce a show worthy of
their crowd (which is typically not
as focused on the fights them-
selves). Additionally, it becomes
a situation where having a more
diverse crowd allows for an even
more diverse crowd in the future.
Essentially, if a guest (or fan) at-
tends an event just to test the
waters and they feel they don’t
belong, it is unlikely that they will
return. If they feel comfortable
and appreciated, they are more
likely to attend another event.
I think this is especially true for
female fans with MMA. Women
in our families and many women
that we are friends with have of-
ten expressed that they are not
comfortable attending events
where the crowd is 95% male.
If there are other women in at-
tendance, they don’t feel out of
place and are more likely to re-
turn with girlfriends!
