Just Let It Die
Clayton “Yeti” Edwards
The Internet is killing
the music industry as we
know it. I’m sure you’ve
heard that a million times in
the past few years. It seems
like anywhere a discussion
about music arises some-
one will pipe up like Chicken
Little just waiting on the sky
to fall. Despite how many
people believe this, there
are usually only two reasons
they can give; it’s either all
that horrible free streaming
(that they’re probably do-
ing) or those modern horrors
known as pirates (download-
ing Metallica torrents just to
piss off Lars) either way, the
fans are to blame. Honestly,
reader, I agree and I’m sit-
ting on the edge of my seat
waiting on this gluttonous
misshapen monster to finally
bleed out.
By now I’m sure I’ve
made some enemies but
hear me out. Sure, the mu-
sic industry is dying and,
outside of the narcissistic
teeny-bopper crowd that are
basically drowning in atten-
tion and money, what we
once thought of as people
who have achieved rock star
status are becoming an en-
dangered species. So what?
If you read enough music
news you’ve seen everyone
on the food chain from suits
to artists to fans crying about
piracy, streaming services,
and digital downloading
in general. Take a moment
