There have been various companies in the UK
and Europe that have come and gone, but
BAMMA has been the one promotion consis-
tently putting on shows and going into the are-
nas and filling them up. Most notably was our
recent expansion into Ireland, a real hotbed of
MMA currently thanks to the rise of the likes of
Connor McGregor. We went in not really know-
ing how well we would do and drew 5 – 6,000
people plus in our first two shows. When we go
back later this year it’s likely to be even more
than that.
The key thing to making this all work, is having
connections to people inside and outside both
TV and MMA and having the right staff to make
things happen. BAMMA has some of the very
best staff in every department that we could
ever hope to have. Everyone on our team is in-
spired by what we are doing to make it work
and it shows. When people come to BAMMA it
feels more like a family than a working environ-
ment. This is why we continue to succeed as we
expand into new areas.
SFM:
How does BAMMA’s approach to promot-
ing differ from other MMA fight promotions in
Europe?
MB:
BAMMA tries to be unique in each and ev-
ery event it holds. We as a promotion don’t just
want to put on fights, we want to put on en-
tertaining fights and present an entertaining at-
mosphere as well. People who attend BAMMA
events, from the moment they enter the arena,
will have one of the most enjoyable nights out
they can, with some elite level European MMA
as a bonus.

In 2012 BAMMA was one of three UK
MMA promotions to partner with The Centre
of Health and Human Performance in London
to launch SAFE MMA, a nonprofit organization
established to improve the safety of MMA fight-
ers in the UK. SAFE MMA officially launched in
2013. What role did BAMMA play in establish-
ing this organization?
