career. If they are following SAFE MMA guide-
lines as an amateur then by the time they take
that step into Pro MMA, nothing changes and it
becomes the norm. From an outside perspective
it’s another layer of making the sport as a whole
much safer and will no doubt help in moving
the sport away from the tags of ‘barbaric’ and
‘no rules’ over time.

BAMMA has quickly become a popular
MMA promotion in Ireland, holding two hugely
successful events at the 3Arena in Dublin within
the past year. What are your plans for future
events in Ireland?
MB:
As part of BAMMA’s expansion, Ireland
is becoming our spiritual home already. The
crowds there are tremendous and BAMMA
has definitely got plans to carry on promoting
there. As one of Europe’s biggest promotions
and the hot bed of talent there is in Ireland, it’s
a perfect fit. We are looking to promote several
shows there this year and that will continue into
2017 and beyond starting with our next event
BAMMA 26 on June 4, 2016 once again at the
3Arena.
SFM:
You have successfully positioned BAMMA
as THE leading MMA promotion in all of Europe
(outside of the UFC) and have clearly set the bar
high when it comes to putting on quality MMA
events in the region. How do you plan to con-
tinue to raise the bar going forward? What is on
the horizon for your organization?
MB:
Our plan right now is to be much more of
a household name in the UK and Europe. MMA
is just about getting recognized in the UK and
BAMMA is at the tip of the needle here, how-
ever people still refer to MMA on the most part
as UFC still. We are now looking to reach new
markets and as we expand our global TV foot-
print, BAMMA will continue to grow. You can
expect to see us promoting events outside of
the UK and Ireland in the next twelve months,
as we continue to strive to bring the European
fan base the best possible MMA events.
BAMMA’s next event ‘BAMMA 25’ will be held
on May 14, 2016 at the Barclaycard Arena, Bir-
mingham. For more information on BAMMA,
