bathroom at school and hoping
that their girlfriends weren’t
pregnant, this dude was train-
ing. Being dumbass teenagers
we all just kind of wrote him
off, there was “Oh he’s just
trying to get in on the fad, he
won’t stick with it” type of talk
from more people than I can
count. We were haters. It hap-
pens all too often.
Well, life goes on and
some of us moved away, a cou-
ple went to the pen, we lost a
few along the way, and some
of us became badass writers.
I haven’t stepped foot in that
town for almost a decade and
have pretty much forgotten
ninety percent of the people
there. Recently, one of the
few people I still speak to from
then posted a promo photo
for World Series of Fighting
29 talking about our “home
town boy” going after a belt.
Sure enough, WSOF29’s main
event featured the dude that
most people laughed off back
in high school: Brian Foster.
He ended up not taking
the belt home but that’s not
the point. The real point is that
he had a title shot. In one of
the times where most people,
for some reason, care the most
about the opinions of others,
Foster ignored all the negativity
and continued to work his ass
off for what he wanted out of
life.
Look, what I’m getting
at here is that sometimes you
have to remember that you
can’t pay bills with other peo-
ples’ opinions. Just focus on
what you’re doing and don’t
give up no matter how much
flack you get from people who
don’t share your vision. Most
things worth having won’t be
handed to you, they require
work and dedication. You
may be lucky enough to have
a supportive group of people
around you or you may have
to make the whole journey by
yourself; either way when the
payoff comes you will know
that the hard work you put in
was worth it. Also, if you see
someone doing something that
they’re excited about don’t be
a hater, you will most likely see
them succeed later in life and
feel like a horse’s ass.
