Do all Victory events
incorporate pro Muay Thai
bouts? What made you decide
to combine the two?
KL:
All three of the partners
that put Victory shows on (Mike
Gasparski, Eddie Cuello and my-
self) have a lot more experience
producing Muay Thai events than
MMA events (as would be ex-
pected due to the legal status).
Mike and Eddie were the CEO
and President of the very success-
ful Take On Muay Thai promotion
before joining the Victory team.
All of us have many years expe-
rience and deep relationships in
the metro-NY Muay Thai com-
munity. That being said, I think
we will continue to produce both
MMA and Muay Thai events and
may even continue to combine
them in a single show. There is
a chance that we will produce
them separately down the road.
SFM:
Legalizing professional
MMA in NY has been an up-
hill battle. It is the last place
where MMA remains unsanc-
tioned in all of North America.
Do you feel that professional
MMA will be legalized in NY
in the near future?
KL:
I believe it is ultimately up to
Sheldon Silver, and I doubt he’ll
do it this term. He’s the Speaker
of the New York Assembly and
simply refuses to call the vote
(even though everything indicates
that it would pass by a landslide if
he called the vote to actually hap-
pen). I think it is our job as pro-
