to succeed in combat sports, and
he believes Branch – a Brazilian
jiu-jitsu black belt under Renzo
Gracie – has taken the right
steps to get where he is today.
“David is a talented athlete, no
question,” Sefo said. “His two
brothers are professional boxers,
so you can see his family is full of
amazing athletes. But David has
taken it to that next level with
his determination and focus, and
those two titles are really a prod-
uct of his hard work.”
A New York native born and
raised in the Bronx, Branch has
been training in martial arts for
more than 15 years and believes
he’s just now hitting his stride.
“I definitely believe that these
titles are something I’ve earned,
something that I worked hard
to achieve,” Branch said. “I en-
visioned this success for myself,
and I took the steps to get there.
It was just a matter of stepping
into the cage and doing exactly
what I trained to do.
“But I’m not done yet. There’s
still so much for me to do in this
sport. No one is going to stop
me from accomplishing exactly
what I want.”
Branch (17-3) returns to action
on April 2, when he puts his
middleweight title on the line
against Clifford Starks (13-2)
in the main event of WSOF30,
which airs live on NBCSN.
