International Mixed Martial Arts Federation
Article By: Jose Youngs
The International Mixed Mar-
tial Arts Federation has an-
nounced the official partner-
ships with organizations from
the Bahamas and Luxembourg
– Fédération Luxembourgeoise
de MMA (FLMMA) and Empire
Mixed Martial Arts Bahamas
(EMMAB).
FLMMA was born out of the
earlier organization “Project
Streetsport”, the non-prof-
it, democratically structured
FLMMA was created as an as-
sociation specifically dedicated
to MMA. The legal statutes
were officially submitted to
the RCS (trade and companies
register) in November 2015.
Although MMA is not yet for-
mally recognized in the coun-
try, its practice is permitted and
the City of Luxembourg, with
the support of the Ministries of
Family and Education, finan-
cially support the sport through
the Streetsport project.
There are two MMA clubs in
Luxembourg that have a good
relationship with each other.
Of those, the Streetsport Proj-
ect is the largest and oldest –
founded in 2004.
The group has held competi-
tions and selections over the
last 10 years and has sent na-
tional representation to com-
pete and medal in European
and World championship
events organized by FILA, as
well as events organized by
neighboring IMMAF affiliate,
the Belgium Mixed Martial
Arts Federation
The FLMMA is headed by
Miomir Vujovic, who is cred-
ited with a number of interna-
tional combats sports matches
in kick boxing and MMA (Ger-
many, Belgium, France and
Luxembourg).
The EMMAB with its Beast
Mode Fight Team has been in
existence for three years and
has represented the Bahamas
at various competitions in Chi-
nese Sanda and MMA, both
nationally and internationally.
The organization is registered
with the Bahamas Ministry
of Sports and is a member
of both the Bahamas Wushu
Sanda Association and the
Bahamas Martial Arts Federa-
tion.
Empire MMA has the only
MMA gym and competitors
in the Bahamas. It has repre-
sented the country interna-
tionally at multiple MMA and
full contact martial arts events
since 2010. It has also held
national amateur and profes-
sional MMA events under the
banner of the Bahamas Open
Martial Arts Championship/
BOMAC Cage Fights. The
group has hosted multiple free
MMA clinics for competitors
and for judges of local tradi-
tional martial arts schools.
The EMMAB is led by Dr. Kent
L. Bazard, whose professional
background is in radiology
and sports medicine. Bazard
assumes the role of Safety Of-
ficer of the Bahamas Mixed
Martial Arts Association, over-
seeing MMA rules and regula-
tions, certification of BMMAA
officials and sanctioning pro-
tocol for both professional and
Amateur level competitions.
IMMAF President, Kerrith
Brown, said: “We are pleased
to welcome representatives
for Luxembourg and Bahamas
to the IMMAF family, and look
forward to a fruitful relation-
ship as we work together to
attain shared goals for the
sport of MMA.”
