though he knows he would
still need to work side jobs just
to make ends meet? Knowing
the advance would not cover
the necessary items needed to
recording an album? Or does
he sign because as some had
advised him “any deal is bet-
ter than no deal”? He looked
over at his wife, sleeping after
major back surgery and he re-
membered the tears he saw
in her eyes. At that moment,
he made the decision to walk
away, regardless of whatever
credibility he was leaving be-
hind, as he was not going to
sign a major contract unless
the tears he sees from his wife
are tears of joy.
Rukus would let his
management know in what
would seem to be a mutual
parting of ways at that point,
but there was this one little
problem...as of March 2016
there was still the Fight Valley
film hanging in the balance.
For the last 5 months, Mikey
had been left in the dark as to
what was taking place. If you
remember, Rukus brought his
management on to represent
him, as he was brought on by
the director to write the entire
soundtrack for the film. Af-
ter months of questions being
deflected, spun and routed
to other topics, Mikey would
have a conference call with the
distributors personally, only to
find out his management had
circumvented him. Rather than
bringing information back to
Mikey in regards to tweaks or
adjustments that needed to be
made, his management would
replace all but 2 of his tracks
with other bands they repre-
sented, essentially taking over
Music Supervisor duties. This
was the final straw for Rukus
as he knew the game had been
played once again. And so he
came to the realization that a
complete separation was nec-
essary.
Fast forward to today,
Mikey Rukus has in fact been
brought back to reprise his role
as Music Supervisor and Com-
poser for Fight Valley 2 by di-
rector Rob Hawk. This time ce-
menting their partnership and
collaborative efforts to ensure
there is no repeat. He has also
signed on as Music Supervisor
for the stoner comedy The Piz-
za Joint with a tentative release
date of December 2016. Not
to be outdone, Mikey contin-
ues to expand his horizons in
and around the sports and en-
tertainment realm while releas-
ing mainstream music to boot.
Qui t . . .Defeat . . .Bro-
ken...Ruined...DONE…..these
are terms that are not in the
vocabulary of a musician who
started with a simple idea that
would bring him to the fore-
front of storytelling through
music production within the
sports realm. His music hits the
airwaves in every major con-
tinent on the globe, his live
shows are packed with high
energy. His heart, passion and
fire for serving his wife and 8
children drive him, and there
are not many like him. He is
MMA’s Fight Music Producer,
he is Music Supervisor, he is
Composer. He is the one they
call Mikey Rukus!
